A recruitment drive for 10,000 new jobs has been launched by hospitality company, Whitbread, due to the rapid expansion of its Premier Inn and Costa coffee brands.
The company has already created more than 2,500 jobs in the past year at its new Costa coffee shops and Premier Inn budget hotels, but has now said it will need many, many more staff onboard before 2015, throughout the UK and Ireland.
The number of Costa branches throughout the UK has increased from 158 to 1,375 in the past year alone, resulting in a 24.4 per cent rise in sales revenues.
Whitbread’s chief executive, Andy Harrison, explained that the company was in a period of major growth and needed to ensure they had the best possible employees working for them.
“Whitbread has delivered good total sales growth of 11 per cent for the year in difficult economic conditions, as we continue to invest in our strong brands,” Harrison explained. “We expect to report in April another full year of double digit earnings growth, in line with expectations.”
He added that the Premier Inn brand was benefiting from its growing reputation for providing clean, quality accommodation at low prices.
“Premier Inn has outperformed its competitive set, benefiting from our commitment to maintain our hotels to a consistent high standard,” he said. “Our scale, strong balance sheet and good returns enable us to continue to expand in line with our plans and win share of the hotel market.”
