Athena Software Inks Deal with Largest Provider of Counselling Services in New Zealand

Waterloo Region software company Athena Software celebrates the continued success of their Penelope case management software solution by adding the first New Zealand provider to their growing global client base.

It's a new year and a new territory for Athena Software.

The Kitchener, Ont.-based software firm has landed its first client in New Zealand, adding to their worldwide client base of social service and behavioural health organizations using the company's Penelope application.

"We are very pleased to announce the implementation of our web-based Penelope case management software solution with Relationship Services Whakawhanaungatanga, the largest provider of professional counselling and relationship education services in New Zealand," said Greg Stanley-Horn, director of deployment projects at Athena Software. "It's exciting to be in New Zealand and to have the opportunity to work with such a great organization."

Stanley-Horn travelled to New Zealand in January 2012 to begin on-site implementation with RSW staff.

With over 70 locations throughout the country, RSW assists around 35,000 New Zealanders each year, providing over 90,000 hours of service in counselling and education programs in the most recent fiscal year. The non-government, non-profit agency specializes in working with relationships, including couples counselling, individual and family therapy, working with victims of violence and abuse, youth at risk, workplace issues and working with the country's indigenous Maori community. The organization also provides free advice through their website at http://www.relate.org.nz, which receives around 15,000 visitors per month.

RSW was on hand to respond to catastrophic events that befell New Zealanders in 2010 and 2011, providing services to more than 10,000 people affected by the Canterbury earthquake in Christchurch between September 2010 and June 2011, and providing trauma support for families and community members affected by the Pike River mining disaster in November 2010 which killed 29 people.

RSW also currently offers free government-funded telephone support for people affected by the recent earthquake aftershocks in the Christchurch area.
