Reformulated probiotic bread meets Cleveland Clinic Wellness "Go! Foods®" guidelines for healthy eating.

Orlando Baking Co. (http://www.orlandobaking.com), the Cleveland company that pioneered probiotic bread in the United States, has added to its True Grains healthy-bread product line with the addition of New Seed'licious™ 100% whole wheat probiotic bread.

With its unique blend of fiber, Omega 3 and probiotic cultures, New Seed'licious™ bread is a great-tasting, reformulated version of Orlando Baking's original Seed'licious™ probiotic bread which the company rolled out in 2011. The reformulation enables the New Seed'licious™ bread to meet the Cleveland Clinic Go! Foods® guidelines which requires foods to meet these standards:
Minimal Saturated Fat -- Less than four grams for main dishes and less than two grams for side dishes, soups and desserts;
No Trans Fat;
Minimal Added Sugars and Syrups -- Less than four grams for main dishes and desserts and less than two grams for side dishes and soups;
100% Whole Grain; and
Minimal Sodium -- No more than 600 mg in entrees and/or 480 mg in sides and desserts.

(Detailed guidelines are provided on the Cleveland Clinic website at http://my.clevelandclinic.org/wellness/go-foods.aspx)

Orlando's New Seed'licious™ bread retails for $3.99 a loaf and is currently selling at all Heinen's stores and Marc's in Northern Ohio, Buehler's Fresh Foods in Medina and Wooster, Dave's Markets and inside the Wellness Store at Cleveland Clinic. The company plans on rapidly expanding store distribution of the probiotic bread throughout Ohio and the Midwest, and will eventually take the True Grains probiotic line nationwide in the coming months.

"Our desire to produce great-tasting, healthy products falls directly in line with Cleveland Clinic's goal of promoting healthy bodies and vibrant communities," commented Nick Orlando, the company's vice president of sales.  "As Orlando Baking Company and Cleveland Clinic are committed to helping individuals make the healthiest food selections, this 'made-in-Cleveland' alliance greatly benefits health-conscience individuals who seek better nutrition and improved, flavorful lifestyles."

The rollout of New Seed'licious™ bread expands Orlando's True Grains probiotic line, which includes Honey Wheat™, a delicious wholesome bread and the original Seed'licious™, a wheat bread textured with flax seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds and millet. True Grains breads are specially formulated with probiotic cultures that promote digestive health and represent the first line of probiotic breads sold in North America.

True Grains breads are baked with GanedenBC30® probiotic, a safe and powerful strain of Bacillus coagulans formulated and patented by Cleveland-based Ganeden Biotech, a leader in probiotic-based digestive health applications. The GanedenBC30 probiotic was specifically developed for food producers and can withstand high heat, freezing, mechanical stress, high pressure and long term storage.
