“The transition from bottle-in-cage totes to the PaperIBC with the Guardian Pressure-Dispense liner has been a resounding success for all involved”.

TWI, a manufacturer of paint and drywall coatings located in Eustis Florida, had been using the “bottle-in-cage” type of totes to package and ship their very high solids content coatings. While the bottle-in-cage totes were working very well as far as getting the product to their customers in intermediate bulk size shipments, TWI was consistently receiving complaints about the slow and laborious process of emptying the containers and the significant amount of residual product that was being left in the tote.

Mr. Larry Parkinson, President of TWI, invited Grayling Industries in to his plant to discuss possible solutions to this packaging problem. After reviewing the viscosity of the product, the distance the product was being shipped and the process for filling and dispensing the coatings, Mr. Randy Sullinger, the new products development engineer for Grayling, suggested that TWI trial the new Guardian Pressure-Dispense liner system in conjunction with the PaperIBC container for their application.

Although the conversion to this new package was initially a challenge for some of TWI’s customers, now all of their customers are happily using the new system and reaping the rewards of much less residual waste and less container handling frustrations.

TWI’s customer were experiencing residual waste of up to 28 gallons of product per container when using the bottle-in-cage totes and they were paying about $8 per gallon to dispose of the waste and clean the totes. Now, the amount of residual has been reduced to approximately 8 gallons per tote, which relates to a savings of almost $160 per container, plus the elimination of all transportation costs to return the totes.

Mr. Parkinson very much appreciated the onsite technical support he received during the development of this new container and liner process, which continued throughout the qualification and transition phase of the packaging change initiative. Per Mr. Parkinson, “The transition from bottle-in-cage totes to the PaperIBC with the Guardian Pressure-Dispense liner has been a resounding success for all involved”.
