Cornish debut novelist Peter Sykes has exploded into the literary world selling thousands of novels in just a few weeks. Peter Sykes, from Portreath, used Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing and Smashwords to self-publish and sell his first two novels, "Sunday with the Devil" and "Flying Babies." Marketing through Amazon’s Kindle Store and Smashwords’ digital partners, like Apple’s iBookstore and the Sony Reader Store, Peter Sykes was able to bypass traditional gatekeepers, such as agents and publishing-house aficionados and sell his thrillers direct to the public.

The Kindle, Sony Reader, iPad and iPhone and even humble laptops are all forms of e-book reader. They enable consumers to download novels from the internet in seconds. In the US, electronic books were outselling both hardbacks and paperbacks by as early as February 2011. Digital book sales in the UK quadrupled in 2010, according to the Publishers Association, and continue to grow exponentially.

“Self-publishing electronic books is allowing the reading public to make their own choices,” said Peter Sykes. “Quality authors can now achieve publishing targets hitherto unthinkable without a contract.” Asked about the secret to his success, Mr Sykes puts it simply: “While most successful authors are selling eBooks for around £7, I sell them at 77 pence. Famous novelists now have to prove that their books are ten times better than mine.”

Readers can purchase the novels at:

Flying Babies http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007CGTEY8

Peter Sykes has so far written two novels, "Sunday with the Devil" and "Flying Babies." Pete was brought up in Africa and the Caribbean and currently directs humanitarian responses to natural and man-made disasters. Now working for Save the Children, Pete started his career in the private sector in Europe. Latterly, he has spent over fifteen years in some of the most troubled parts of the world and has been a small part of history in the making in many countries. His unusual background adds critical authority to both the settings and characters in his novels and Pete has already started writing his third work of fiction.
