Fashion designer and bridal expert, Henry Roth, watched Sunday night’s Oscar red carpet attentively, examining the exquisite gowns and silhouettes sported by Hollywood’s leading ladies. The reason? Hollywood’s biggest night of the year is a great predictor of what’s to come in the world of wedding gowns.

Ever the style expert, Roth was quick to take to Facebook to announce his top five looks of the night and predict a big trend for 2012: necklines! From asymmetrical to pussy-bow, this year’s Oscar dresses has Roth and his team planning fabulous alternatives to strapless.

1. Angelina Jolie in Versace
Jolie proved that strapless is not stuck on sweetheart shapes with her asymmetrical strapless gown which was unexpected and re-writes rules.

2. Emma Stone In Giambattista Vali
Stone championed the return of dramatic necklines. “This stunning gown was made by its neckline,” says Henry. “It heralds the return of textured, soft décolletage details and has me predicting that, more than ever, brides will turn away from everything strapless this year.”

3. Michelle Williams in Bottega Veneta
Future vintage at its best, from the brooch waistline detail to the peplum skirt, Williams wowed in this striking 1940s silhouette. “This will very definitely be a shape brides will embrace and style for their own wedding dress choice,” predicts Henry.

4. Tina Fey in Carolina Herrera
Fey’s navy dress was Roth’s favorite look of the night thanks to its striking simplicity—a big trend for 2012 brides. The 1940s styling and peplum skirt were simple perfection.

4. Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab
Jovovich struck gold in a divine gown boasting an asymmetrical neckline. “Her fitted gown is also on trend for brides wanting less fullness and a silhouette that is body skimming,” advises Henry. The trend in Bridal gowns will see more interesting neckline shapes as a welcome alternative to strapless.
