Data Center Managers need to know the best practices and technologies available so they can respond quickly and effectively to any new challenge.
West Chester, Ohio (PRWEB) March 01, 2012
AFCOM, the world's leading data center professional association, today announced Vivek Kundra, the first Chief Information Officer of the United States, will deliver the keynote address at the Spring 2012 Data Center World conference to be held in at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, NV., March 18-22. In this presentation, Kundra will share his experience leading change across the world’s largest consumer of information technology—the U.S. government—and the lessons every organization can use when leading a transformation in a change-averse environment.
“The data center has always been by definition at the heart of IT systems; however, as our lives and businesses are increasingly becoming data-driven, it is taking center stage in every organization,” said Kundra. “From managing budgets to facility space to IT and physical security, new responsibilities are being added to every data center manager’s role and these professionals need to know the best practices and technologies available so that they can respond quickly and effectively to any new challenge.”
As CIO of the U.S., Kundra was faced with the unprecedented challenge of leading the federal government’s IT operations and policy—and at a time when cutting costs, increasing efficiency and driving innovation were of paramount importance. Having managed the $80 billion federal technology budget, Kundra’s efforts yielded significant progress in transforming the way technology is purchased and managed by bringing best-in-class private sector solutions to solve massive public sector inefficiencies. The result has been a highly transparent, efficient and accountable environment focused on making systems and information useful to the public.
“The United States government took a huge step in demonstrating how important information technology and data centers are to American livelihood when they appointed Mr. Kundra to his post as the nation’s first CIO,” said Jill Eckhaus, president of AFCOM and chairperson of Data Center World. “Hearing directly from his experiences in both the public and private sector will be enormously valuable for our members as they tackle many of the same problems.”
Kundra’s address will be delivered on Tuesday, March 20 at 7:45 a.m. PST.
