Recently, Ion Overman has been tapped for several major film and television projects, including a network television series, a movie adapted from a best selling novel, and has recently completed the film "Tunnel Vision" (http://tunnelvisionthemovie.com/), which is expected to be released later this year. We had the opportunity to speak with Overman at an awards banquet held recently by The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a nonprofit mental health watchdog responsible for helping to enact more than 150 laws protecting individuals from abusive or coercive practices, where Maryanne Godboldo (http://www.justice4maryanne.com) received an award presented by actors Jenna Elfman and Danny Masterson ("That 70's Show").
Overman was visibly moved by Masterson's introduction of a powerful and dramatic video piece on Godboldo's harrowing fight for custody of her then 9 year-old daughter Ariana, that began with Child Protective Services illegally attempting to remove Ariana from her custody due to Godboldo's refusal to place her back on powerful psychotropic medication. Before the video was played, Masterson's introduction ended with his chilling statement; "If the TV footage you are about to see looks like Afghanistan, think again. It's Detroit."
Overman stated, "I'm deeply moved by Ms. Godboldo's story, and honored to have had the chance to meet and spend time with her. I believe strongly that we as citizens have a right to choose whether or not we and our children take prescription medication."
