CFEngine AS today announced the appointment of three experienced software executives to newly created positions on its senior management team. Knut Stålen has joined the company as Chief Financial & Operational Officer; Steve Clarence as Vice President of Sales; and Volker Hilsheimer as Director of Engineering.

Knut Stålen – Chief Financial & Operational Officer
As CFEngine’s new Chief Financial & Operational Officer based in its Oslo headquarters, Mr. Stålen is responsible for managing the company’s financial operations and the execution of planning processes. He also ensures that optimal operating procedures are implemented throughout the company.
Prior to joining CFEngine, he was CFO of Mamut ASA, a Norwegian public company specializing in ERP software and Internet services for SME companies. Mamut ASA was acquired by Visma ASA. Previously, Mr. Stålen worked as a Director of Finance for Microsoft.
From 2001 to 2008, Mr. Stålen was CFO for Trolltech ASA, the Norwegian developer of the popular Qt cross-platform application framework. He managed the company’s 2006 IPO and financial operations as a public company through its 2008 acquisition by Nokia.
Steve Clarence – Vice President of Sales
Mr. Clarence is responsible for developing the commercial sales, channel and partner strategy for CFEngine’s open source configuration management software. He is based in the company’s North American headquarters in Palo Alto, California.
He has over two decades of experience building and managing highly successful international sales teams for both large public software companies and high-tech start-ups – including a proven track record for providing vertical and horizontal solutions to Fortune 500 companies.
Mr. Clarence has held senior sales positions for such industry leaders as Angel.com, Convergys, Global Netexchange, Healtheon/Web MD, Informix Software, Intervoice/Edify, Pivia Software, and Qiva.
He holds a bachelors degree in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Volker Hilsheimer – Director of Engineering
Based in Oslo, Mr. Hilsheimer manages CFEngine’s development and engineering teams, working closely with CTO Mark Burgess and Director of Products & Services, Christian Figenschou, to define and execute on the company’s product roadmap and technical priorities.
Over the past decade, Mr. Hilsheimer has supported highly regarded global engineering teams and lead the successful development of the popular Qt framework. He has an engineering history in software development and technical support, and served in a number of senior positions for Trolltech ASA and Nokia, including Director of Support, Program Manager and Head of R&D.
Mr. Hilsheimer attended the University of Rostock in Germany.
