University student’s American Public Polling project reveals unlikely frontrunner; candidate Donna Glisman over Josh Mandel in Ohio's U.S. Senate race while majority of voters remain undecided. Marcy Kaptur ahead of Dennis Kucinich and Mary Jo Kilroy trailing Joyce Beatty in battleground Congressional districts.

The survey of 3200 Republican voters places Ohio’s State Treasurer Josh Mandel, six points behind newcomer Donna Glisman.

The American Public Polling Project has released the latest results of their largest survey to date. The polling efforts offer insight into some key federal races across the State of Ohio. Redistricting has put many sitting Representatives up against each other, leading to heated primary races; the biggest is between House veterans Marcy Kaptur and Dennis Kucinich. The survey of the 9th district has Kaptur four points ahead overall, with a major lead among women voters. In the State's Capitol, two incumbent Congresswomen battle for the Democratic nomination in the new 3rd district; Joyce Beatty leads Mary Jo Kilroy by five points. The most surprising results come in the State’s U.S. Senate race, where the winner of the primary will battle incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown for the seat, and perhaps party control of the Senate. The survey of 3200 Republican voters places Ohio’s State Treasurer Josh Mandel, six points behind newcomer Donna Glisman. Mandel was expected to easily breeze through the primary, but the poll shows voters may not agree.

The survey finds an overwhelming amount of the voters questioned did not know any of the Republicans running for the U.S. Senate, and were only informed of the many candidates because of the telephone polling. Project leader Soo Lee, “I was personally responsible for roughly 15 percent of the calls, and 75% of the voters did not recognize any of the US Senate candidates. Many of those voters asked to repeat the names, and then chose Donna Glisman after admitting they didn’t know any of the candidates running.” Glisman is the only woman running for the position in the field of five candidates, and has a large lead in the "over 50" and "female" demographics.

The American Public Polling Project is an independent survey conducted by a collection of University students across Ohio. Their latest primary election poll was conducted over a seven day period from February 20 – 27, contacting 3200 likely primary voters of each major party, divided equally over the 16 congressional districts. All calls were made in person, to land-line phone numbers researched on whitepages.com, from registered voter lists supplied by the Secretary of State.
