Here is an illustration of how this works. Let’s say a high school band needs to raise money. (Don’t they all?) Let’s also assume they would like to do this without spending any of their own money.

The Band finds 4 sponsors that wish to advertise on a golf ball package. This package becomes the vehicle for the fundraiser. Each of these companies donates $250.00 each. This money is used to purchase 200 packages of golf balls and each package has those sponsors coupons imprinted onto the package. Additionally each package has a picture of all of the band members in a group shot on the package as well. Now it us up to each of the band members to sell these packages. Selling each package of golf balls is easy because the coupons create value in excess of purchase price. If even just one sponsor offers say buy 1 get 1 free offer for their business, buying the golf balls becomes a bonus and incentive to purchase. You’re not just buying golf balls, you get a free pizza bonus. Then there is the notoriety of having the band members photo on a box of golf balls. If there are 50 band members, each member only needs to sell 8 packages.

Once completed, the band will have raised $2,000.00 without any capital outlay on their part, they have generated new business for all of the sponsors, and provided value for each sale by the added coupons or discounts that were incorporated into the package. Oh, and I almost forgot, each recipient also gets the golf balls with the school logo!

This concept or variations of it can work on most any fundraising activity. Additionally it can be scaled either up or down depending on each client.
