Health system serving Idaho, Eastern Oregon to leverage MedVentive platform for Medical Home initiative

While other options were years away from implementation, MedVentive was an already integrated platform that had obviously been battle-tested by physicians for many years.

Saint Alphonsus Health System, a four-hospital, faith-based Catholic ministry serving more than 700,000 people in two states, has signed an agreement to implement MedVentive Population Manager and MedVentive Risk Manager to manage risk and quality performance. The comprehensive and proven MedVentive technology platform will support Saint Alphonsus as it undertakes its first program to manage population health and convert its ambulatory settings to Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMH).

Regional employer groups as well as Saint Alphonsus Health System’s own self-insured population will benefit from MedVentive’s 15 years of risk management and provider profiling to better manage the cost and quality of care. During the selection process, Saint Alphonsus found MedVentive to be the only solution that could support both population and risk management.

“We wanted a solution that would move us into a new era of population health,” said J. Robert Polk, MD, Vice President and Chief Quality Officer, Saint Alphonsus Health System. “While other options were years away from implementation, MedVentive was an already integrated platform that had obviously been battle-tested by physicians for many years. MedVentive was also far and away the most responsive vendor, and we felt very confident in their ability to help us reach implementation effectively and quickly.”

Saint Alphonsus Health System, founded in April 2010, is comprised of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, Boise; Saint Alphonsus Medical Center, Nampa; Saint Alphonsus Medical Center, Ontario; and Saint Alphonsus Medical Center, Baker City. Saint Alphonsus will implement the MedVentive platform to manage its own employee population and later expand the program to include other employee groups. MedVentive Population Manager will provide the needed IT infrastructure to introduce care under a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) concept – a healthcare model designed to facilitate partnerships between individual patients and their personal physicians. MedVentive Risk Manager will provide Saint Alphonsus with a single enterprise-spanning view that can measure and manage major drivers of cost, including drugs, imaging, hospital stays, and emergency room utilization, and practice variations.

“Outside of our main population center we are dealing with a very rural population,” said Mr. Polk. “This technology can connect specialists in population centers to providers in the regional clinics, to the patients in the rural towns and villages. The more we can bring healthcare close to home, the better it is for everyone.”

According to MedVentive Chief Growth Officer Nancy Brown, the MedVentive platform is a perfect fit for such a scenario. “We are delighted to be working with Saint Alphonsus as they move to a new era of population health,” said Ms. Brown. “With our long experience and proven, practical solutions to implementing clinical integration, population management, and risk management, we stand well positioned to help Saint Alphonsus introduce the infrastructure needed to effectively manage the unique challenges they face.”

About MedVentive

While healthcare was evolving the concept of an accountable care organization, MedVentive was busy operating as one. MedVentive was founded as the Provider Service Network (PSN) in 1997 by the CareGroup Healthcare System, an integrated, at-risk network of 4,500 physicians and eight hospitals that cared for more than 450,000 at-risk patients. The network included the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching facility of Harvard Medical School.

Our origins as an ACO give MedVentive a deep understanding of provider organizations and the healthcare environment. Having been an at-risk provider network, MedVentive is uniquely qualified to support an organization’s transition from a fee-for-service payment environment to risk-based contracting, and provide the clinical integration/population management infrastructure necessary to be successful under this new model.
