Developers of the Assassin’s Creed games announced early today on the Ubisoft Facebook page the setting for the latest game in the series, the American Revolution. This announcement was followed by the promise of further news being released over the coming weekend, fans are eagerly awaiting more information.

The Assassin’s Creed series has increased in popularity since the release of the original game, which was a launch title for the Sony Playstation 3. Three more games were later released, due to popularity and developers further built upon the concepts the first game had created. This series changed the way in which videogames were perceived, with beautifully detailed cities and stories compared to the popular First Person Shooters.

Assassin’s Creed 3 will be the fifth game in the series because developers worked more with the character from Assassin’s Creed 2, after it was received with such praise by fans. However, there have been those fans who have longed for a new setting and character since the end of the second game, Assassin’s Creed 3 is eagerly waiting.

The historical event, the American Revolution has many events from which Ubisoft could be using for their latest release. Digital Trends, online product reviewer, are speculating about the appearance of The Founding Fathers, as protagonists in the series often end up meeting the authorities of the time period. Ben Franklin is a preferred historical figure among fans to be used to create the new and innovative technology that the assassins have classically had.

The box art shows an American Civil War Soldier on a horse and an assassin holding both a gun and various Native American weapons. In past games the protagonists were either already accepted and renowned within the assassin order, or born into a wealthy family that had connections with the assassins.

In this, the third game in the series it looks to be that the protagonist will be half Native American and half British, which could lead to the conclusion that the main character will be born into poverty and must learn of the assassin’s on his own. The fact that the character holds both, advanced technology of the time and ancient weapons could hint at a conflict between two factions. Meaning that unlike in previous games, players may have to make a choice as to which side they choose. This concept is also a parallel to the conflict between the ancient human race and ‘those who came before,’ which is at the core of Assassin’s Creed lore.

With more news only a day away, there is a lot of excitement around what Ubisoft will be announcing next. Some fans think that there may be multiple settings and timelines within the game, because of the fact that there were so many location possibilities being discussed recently. Egypt is a popular location among fans of the series, and has been featured in artwork from Ubisoft since the release of the third game.

Prior to this announcement, online retailers such as had listed Assassin’s Creed 3 as a product available for pre-order. is an online retailer of cheap dvds and games, and is dedicated to working with the games industry to bring customers the highest quality news and products.
