School bullying is a growing problem in our society today. While the schools are attempting to control this age old problem, current research indicates that the best way to deal with bullying is for the child victim to change the way he is perceived by others. But how does a child do this when he has no idea about the concept of self image or skills for how to change this? The Bully Magnet written by Deborah N. Conner tells the story of a child who was able to overcome bullying.
In this book, Eddie has become the target of bullies, and feels helpless to make it stop. He doesn’t know how to deal with it as he is being pestered by bullies around the community and even in school every day. But, he learns something new by watching his friend Sara. Indeed, his problem can be fixed.
This book is written from the perspective of a child who has become the target of many bullies, and feels helpless to make it stop. The opportunity to watch a friend handle bullying in a way that stops the negative behavior provided hope for the child victim that his problem can be solved.
Furthermore, this book teaches readers the skills for handling a bully from a child’s perspective, and provides hope for a problem that is often devastating for a child. Indeed, even though bullying has existed in schools and communities for decades, that is no excuse to continue to allow children to be bullied
This book will be featured at the 2012 Book Expo America Book Exhibit in New York City, NY, on June 5-8, 2012.
