CAI Networks Enhances IPv6 Functionality to Support IPv4 Transition

WebMux IPv6

“This day has been coming since RFC 1883 in December of 1995. We have seen it on our radar for years, with successive waves of hype and near hysteria over IPv4 address depletion, ebbing with CIDR solutions in RFC’s 1518, 1519, and then RFC 4632, ....

AVANU® is now shipping enhanced support for IPv6 in CAI Networks’ WebMux™ load balancers, also known as application delivery controllers (ADC), with the latest firmware release (v9.0.0.0). The IPv6 enhancements complement the world IPv6 launch, scheduled this June 6, 2012, as well as US OMB deadlines. The WebMux firmware enhancements add IPv6-to-IPv4 gateway capabilities on top of a full suite of IPv6 and IPv4 load balancing features. The new firmware enhances prior WebMux IPv6 functionality with network address translation (NAT) mode, Transparent mode, Single Network mode, and Out-of-Path (OOP) mode, as well as IPv6 Layer 7 (L7) load directing and IPv6 traffic SSL terminations.

The usual WebMux load balancing architectures are supported, including One-Arm and Two-Arm configurations as well as bonded/aggregated Ethernet links, 802.1Q VLAN options, and multiple ISP uplink support. WebMux load balancers, have a track record of reliability, possess abundant load balancing features, are very easy to use and manage, are affordably priced, but they also can be used as affordable IPv6 transition enablers.

WebMux are ready with more than load balancing for IPv6. AVANU’s customers include government network managers who are planning for the IPv6 transition (adhering to OMB directive), hosting providers looking to meet the goal of the “World IPv6 Launch” this June 6, as well as businesses which simply want to ensure they are well-positioned to face the IPv6 transition. The WebMux has built-in 6-to-4 gateway capability to provide Internet-facing IPv6 support for those without a pressing requirement for complete internal network transition. They may be satisfying DOD requirements for Internet-facing systems to be IPv6-compliant with or without using the load-balancing features of the WebMux. AVANU’s WebMux customers also may be serving a global marketplace and want to ensure broad compatibility with international users on both IPv4 and IPv6 ISPs and can do so with a simple firmware upgrade.

The WebMux can be used as a cost-effective v6-to-v4 gateway, an IPv4 presence, an IPv6 face, and it also has the usual suite of WebMux load-balancing architectures: One-Arm, Two-Arm, NAT, Transparent, Out-of-Path, or Single-Network modes. The WebMux also provides the solution for customers committed to IPv6 internally as well as externally.

“This day has been coming since RFC 1883 in December of 1995. We have seen it on our radar for years, with successive waves of hype and near hysteria over IPv4 address depletion, ebbing with CIDR solutions in RFC’s 1518, 1519, and then RFC 4632, but never going away. It is coming. Government network buyers have been required to specify IPv6 as a requirement for years yet there are still many new and current devices from other vendors that are not IPv6-compliant. The CAI Networks WebMux is not among them. The WebMux has an array of features that are available both to new customers—with no additional feature licensing costs--as well as customers routinely upgrading the firmware on their oldest WebMux load balancers,” says Fritz Ames, CTO of AVANU.

Whether customers need two network ports or 24 there is a WebMux to fit the requirements. Current WebMux models are rated at 1.7 Gbps to 4 Gbps and are priced to make high-availability and high performance affordable.

CAI Networks maintains compatibility so that the latest firmware will deliver all of the features of the latest version with just a few minutes of effort to upgrade on any WebMux that is under a support agreement. Our existing WebMux customers, no matter the age of their units, can always have the latest feature set.
