Pogo Linux today introduced new additions to its popular Iris rackmount server line, featuring the new Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 Family. The new Intel® processors deliver up to 80% higher performance than previous generation Xeon® processors. This processor platform also features updates to Intel® Intelligent Power Technology and Intel® Turbo Boost. These new features greatly increase the power efficiency of an Iris server in the data center, while providing maximum performance. Other key features, namely Intel® Integrated I/O and larger memory capacities, keep pace with the demands of growing workloads such as virtualization and cloud computing.

Iris servers maximize energy efficiency with Intel®’s Intelligent Power Technology and Intel® Turbo Boost, keeping costs low and performance high. These servers adjust to workload demands and environmental needs to deliver up to 80% more performance compared to the previous generation of Xeon® 2-socket servers. With the increased performance and additional energy savings, the new platforms continue to build on the strong ROI of the previous platform.

Intel® Integrated I/O is a key component on the new processor platform and brings many advantages to Pogo Linux Iris rackmount servers, including greater I/O capacity and increased bandwidth. With more lanes of PCI-e available, expansion possibilities have increased for storage and GPU workloads. In addition, the new Integrated I/O has reduced latency by up to 30%, helping critical workloads such as databases and OLTP.

With support for up to 24 memory slots on a dual-processor server, effective memory capacities have increased dramatically compared to prior generations of Iris dual processor systems. With the falling price of 16GB memory modules, economical options now exist for users who need to get up to 384GB of memory in one dual processor system. The same platforms will also support up to 768GB of memory once 32GB memory modules become more readily available. This is a huge win for customers running virtualization and cloud computing applications that continue to push the limits of memory usage.

“We are very excited about the addition of the new Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 family to the Pogo Linux Iris server line,” said Erik Logan, CEO of Pogo Linux. “Higher memory capacities and better performance are a win-win for our data center customers, who are constantly pushing the limits of virtualization and cloud infrastructures.”

General Availability

The new additions to the Iris server line supporting the Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 family are available in both single processor and dual processor configurations. Single processor configurations start at just under $2,000, with dual processor options starting at around $2,500.
