Our patients are excited to hear that we're involved in these (charitable) causes.

Houston orthodontist Dr. Vladimir Tabakman of West Houston Orthodontics has for years supported local charities and causes, both personally and professionally. But recently, during a conversation with the mother of a patient about charitable giving, the Houston Invisalign specialist had an epiphany, “Why don’t we let our patients and their families determine to whom we donate?”
“We have patients ask weekly if we will donate to their chosen cause(s), and we try to support these local philanthropists as much as possible,” offers Dr. Tabakman. “But instead of $10 here and $50 there, what if we pooled those amounts to give to one charity that our entire patient body chooses by way of voting?” he asks. “So we’ve launched a new campaign that we’re calling ‘Making a Change.’ Every quarter we post the four ‘most requested charities’ in an application on our Facebook page, and ask the patients to cast their vote as to who gets the donation."
The “Making a Change” charity drive will conclude on April 30th at which time either Meals on Wheels Houston, the Make a Wish Foundation, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Houston Children’s Charity will receive a $500 donation from West Houston Orthodontics. Patients and their families are told about the campaign during their normal appointments. “Patients are excited to hear that we’re involved in these causes, and have even given us better names for the campaign for next quarter,” says Dr. Tabakman. “’Houston Braces for a Change’ is what we’ll call it going forward, hopefully tying together our philanthropies with the fact that we are an orthodontic practice.”
In the end, Dr. Tabakman is pleased to simply involve his patients in the act of philanthropic participation. “As an example, one of the causes, The Houston Children’s Charity, provides support to underprivileged, abused, and disabled children. Houston is made stronger as a community with such private charities caring for those in need,” offers Dr. Tabakman. “If we only help to raise awareness about these causes, then Houston is made a better place to live and work.”
So while it may be that “Invisalign in Houston” isn't forefront in your mind, thanks to those patients for whom it is, the “Making a Change” campaign by West Houston Orthodontics will continue to support local Houston charities.
