SIDNEY, Neb., and SUNNYVALE, Calif. (PRWEB) March 08, 2012

Cabela's Incorporated, the World’s Foremost Outfitter® of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, and Trimble announced today an iPhone and Android app built for recreational anglers. The Cabela’s Recon™ Fish app, developed by Trimble Outdoors, combines powerful point-to-point GPS navigation, lake maps with depth contours, a digital compass and weather forecasts.

Recon Fish features a social media hook, too. The Fish Feed tool allows anglers to instantly post fish photos to Facebook and Cabelas.com without revealing their secret spot where the fish was caught.

“We are thrilled to team with Trimble Outdoors on such an innovative product,” said Cabela’s Chief Executive Officer Tommy Millner. “This promises to enhance the angling experience for those who wish to combine outdoor adventure with smart technology.”

Thanks to the GPS built into iPhones and Android-compatible phones, no data or phone signal is needed for users to see their location. Anglers can also select which outdoor and lake maps they want saved on their phone for viewing in remote areas. The basic app offers five map types (topographic, hybrid, aerial, street and terrain). If users choose to be a Recon Elite member, they also have access to detailed depth contours for more than 6,700 lakes in the United States.

Anglers can collect waypoints such as boat launches and fishing hot spots, track their boat’s course, and capture photos and videos in the field. The app also has a complimentary website for users to view lake maps and preplan outings at: http://www.cabelas.com/recon.

“Cabela’s Recon Fish brings anglers a full lineup of tools for their PC and smartphone,” said Rich Rudow, general manager of Trimble Outdoors. “Before they leave the dock, users first can plan out their fishing trips on the Recon website. Then, with a few clicks, all their data and maps can be stored in the Recon Fish app. Fishing maps and data just became more portable and mobile. “

The Cabela’s Recon Fish App is free to download from the Apple App Store and Android Marketplace. Users can also go to http://www.cabelas.com/recon to activate a 14-day trial to the Recon Elite membership, which includes exclusive lake contour maps, content and deals within Recon Fish and at cabelas.com/recon. After the trial, membership is $30 per year for access to the exclusive content and ongoing map updates.
