Whirlpool MT4155SPB

The Whirlpool MT4155SPB earned an 8 out of 10 from 10rate this year.

"One of the first things I noticed with this LG countertop microwave was the sturdy and solid construction. Some other models’ doors swing open and shut flimsily, but this one’s door feels heavier and closes with a confident snap."

10Rate reviewer Brittany Rowland and other 10Rate staff selected 10 of the best microwaves for 2012. Testing and consideration were given for each model's ease of use, versatility and performance based on a set of technical criteria as follows:

1. Size and appearance
2. Cooking time
3. Quality construction
4. Heating performance

The annual Top 10 Best Microwaves 2012 awards list was led by the Frigidaire FFCE2238LB, which took home the Best Quality award this year. With a 9 out of possible 10 rating, the review pointed out several key features of the microwave as follows: “An LED screen clearly displays the cook setting. I find the button console pleasantly simple, clean, and uncluttered to match the overall glossy, polished feel of the microwave. We were impressed by the voluminous interior, more than adequate space for almost any size pan.”

10Rate's editors also gave the Microwaves' Best Value award to the LG LCRT2010ST, for which Rowland noted, “One of the first things I noticed with this LG countertop microwave was the sturdy and solid construction. Some other models’ doors swing open and shut flimsily, but this one’s door feels heavier and closes with a confident snap. The sleek stainless steel finish makes for a sophisticated look, offset by the black window and console. We were impressed with the straightforward spread of buttons, which includes seven sensor cook options.”

The Best Budget award from the Best Microwave Reviews went to another Frigidaire model, the FFCE1439LW, which was recognized as, “A stylish design and low price, just $99.99, sets this Frigidaire counterpart microwave apart from competing models.” Rowland went on in the review, “With 1,100 watts powering the microwave, food gets heated quickly and uniformly. For convenience, the quick start option lets you adjust the cooking time with one touch of a button.” With a score of 8.5 out of 10, the Frigidaire FFCE1439LW placed second in overall rating.

Highly acknowledged this year, Frigidaire was the only brand listed for multiple models on the Comparison Microwave Ratings, receiving three separate recognitions. Although the brand itself only received one distinction, the Maytag UMC5200B Review stated the following for earning third place in the scores: “Generous capacity and powerful wattage make this model a good fit for large families and avid cooks. A variety of available colors helps you match it to your other kitchen appliances. With custom programming options, you can save the cooking settings for foods you heat often. Another convenient feature is the auto defrost setting that adjusts its time based on the food’s weight.”
