The international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP announced today that Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein, ret. was unanimously confirmed by the Pennsylvania Senate as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS).

Silverstein, ret. was unanimously confirmed by the Pennsylvania Senate as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS). Silverstein, Senior Counsel in Greenberg Traurig’s global and corporate & securities practices, was nominated by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett.

PSERS is a defined benefit public pension fund with $50 billion in assets and 500,000 members. The fifteen member Board is an independent administrative board of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Trustees have exclusive control and management of the Fund and full power to invest it.

“It is humbling to have been nominated by Governor Corbett for this position,” said Silverstein. “I look forward to protecting the interests of the members of PSERS in my new role.”

Silverstein has represented multi-national businesses for more than 30 years and is a member of the bars of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Texas and the U.S. Court of International Trade. He served as U.S. Ambassador to Uruguay from 2001 to 2005 and currently sits as a Judge Pro Tempore in the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania. Silverstein received his B.A. from Rutgers College, J.D. from Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law and LL.M from University of Pennsylvania Law School.
