Food on the Table teamed up with Executive Chef David Bull to host a hands-on app demo and cooking class for members of the food and technology community this Friday, March 9 at the Whole Foods Market Culinary Center.
The Food on the Table team started the app demo by planning a meal for the cooking class. The app then created an organized grocery list for the meal’s recipe using sale items at Whole Foods Market.
“We’re thrilled to interact with SXSW influencers and show how handy this app can be,” said Amanda Yates, marketing manager at Food on the Table. “This is a fun way to demonstrate that planning, shopping and cooking doesn’t have to take a ton of time.”
Once the ingredients were bought, Executive Chef David Bull shared tips on how to unpack groceries and then led a hands-on cooking class of the meal, which consisted of roasted pork loin with escarole, pickled onions, caraway potatoes and honey mustard. Inspired by his favorite weeknight dinner, the dish was prepared in less than 45 minutes.
The app demo and cooking class was used to show how Food on the Table uses mobile technology to find the sales at a user’s local stores and integrate them in to recipes that match each user’s food preferences and dietary needs. Users are then provided with a customized meal plan and organized grocery list.
David Bull, a father of five that admittedly struggles with weeknight dinners, is the executive chef at Congress, the only restaurant to be awarded five stars by The Austin American Statesman. Congress was also honored as one of the top 10 best new restaurants of 2011 by Bon Appetit magazine.
