Accolades from the President of Liberia and Colleagues & Clients Around the World for KRL’s Fierce Advocacy

KRL Managing Director Riva Levinson addresses guests at KRL 5 Yr. Anniversary celebration in Wash DC.

KRL brings commitment and a deep passion to all that they do. There is no equivalent in their industry.

On the evening of Tuesday, March 6th, KRL International recognized the milestone of 5 years of international advocacy and consulting, working fiercely “in the trenches” with clients in the world’s emerging markets. A celebratory cocktail party took place in the Rooftop Reception Room of 1777 F Street NW where KRL Managing Director Riva Levinson and staff hosted their friends, family, colleagues, teachers, mentors, clients and dignitaries to mark the occasion.

Said Levinson, “We have had the privilege to work with some remarkable people and organizations and go on journeys with them; not just through the corridors of Capitol Hill and Foggy Bottom, but also in the field, where our clients put themselves on the line, where everything is real, where you feel the immediacy of need, and the responsibility to give back. It is in these situations where our most valuable currency – trust – is redeemed. Tonight is our opportunity to say, ‘Thank You.’”

To honor their anniversary achievement, Anthony Nwachukwu, Deputy Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer of SW Global, flew in from Lagos, Nigeria. SW Global is the largest provider of e-governance systems in Nigeria. In addition, Ms. Lola Poisson, wife of Raymond Joseph - the former Ambassador of Haiti to the United States (2005-2010), arrived from Haiti to attend. Congressman Jeff Flake of Arizona, who has worked with KRL on a number of issues related to Africa, attended as well. The Honorable Ambassador William V.S. Bull Sr. of Liberia and his wife Cecelia Zina Freeman were there to express their appreciation and read a letter of commendation from Her Excellency Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia. The guests were also treated to the soulful musical performance from award-winning urban jazz harmonicist Frédéric Yonnet.

The evening’s ceremonies were hosted by the Chairman of KRL’s Advisory Board, distinguished lawyer and Democratic Strategist, Mr. Peter G. Kelly of the law firm Updike, Kelly & Spellacy, PC, and the current Chairman of the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES). Mr. Kelly has known Riva since her first job out of college at Black, Manafort, Stone & Kelly. Remarked Mr. Kelly, “Riva is extraordinarily educated about and committed to Africa. I am especially proud of her and the KRL team for what they have accomplished in these past five years.”

Mr. Sean M. Cleary, KRL Advisory Board Member, Chairman of Strategic Concepts (Pty) Ltd., and Managing Director of the Center for Advanced Governance, then took the stage. A mentor and colleague for more than two decades Mr. Cleary remarked, “KRL brings commitment and a deep passion to all that they do. There is no equivalent in their industry.”

The Honorable Ambassador William V.S. Bull Sr. of Liberia stepped forward to attest that he was “pleased to confirm the long-standing friendship and collaboration which Liberia has enjoyed with Riva and the KRL team.”

He then announced that he wished to read a letter of commendation from H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the President of the Republic of Liberia. The letter stated:

“I have known Riva for over fifteen years. During most of the time, the work that she performed for me was done on a pro bono basis. She supported me during my first presidential campaign in 1996 and subsequently during my exile in La Cote d’Ivoire, immediately thereafter. She stood with me during the period of the transitional government in 2003 and then on to the 2005 campaign in which I emerged victorious.” . . .

“KRL has been very instrumental in assisting Liberia in its economic recovery process. The invaluable advocacy rendered to the country has assisted it in achieving many of its development goals. This has made Liberia to be the third largest recipient of foreign assistance in Sub-Saharan Africa and has labeled Liberia to be a post-conflict success story.”

Riva closed out the evening, reminding her audience:

“There is no straight line to any destination; and every one of our clients, as well as KRL, has had its bumps, bruises and dramatic falls along the way. But what’s important is that you don’t give up, you stay committed and sometimes you just have to do things without a thought to the outcome; because what drives you is bigger than your own part; and you do it just because you can.”
