InfoBarrel.com a large open platform writer’s community has been raising money over the last two years to help push towards a cure or treatment for Huntington’s Disease.
Since the inception of the InfoBarrel for Charities program. InfoBarrel and it’s users have collectively raised over $2600. The program doesn’t work like your standard charity where donations are collected. Instead, users on InfoBarrel can share their knowledge in the form of media rich articles and can have the Google Adsense revenue generated from their content donated to charity. InfoBarrel provides the writing tools and platform writer’s need to create quality content and gain visibility for their work.
As of the time of publishing, InfoBarrel currently has 1779 articles being donated to the cause all written by users of the site. InfoBarrel is hoping to raise more awareness of their charitable program with the goal of eventually reaching over 10,000 donated articles.
“While users are able to keep the money generated by their articles for themselves, we’ve seen an overwhelming number of users wanting to help out. We love the idea that people who may not have the money to donate to charity can simply share their knowledge and know that they are contributing to the greater good of humanity” Said co-owner Kevin Hinton.
“The Huntington Society of Canada is a charity that is very close to my heart” said co-owner Ryan McKenzie. “My sister was diagnosed with the rare disease in 2006 which is what originally sparked my interested in supporting the cause. Since then I have organized numerous other fundraisers outside of InfoBarrel.com, but couldn’t resist the idea of mass collaboration and social media applied to fundraising.”
For Kevin Hinton and Ryan McKenzie of InfoBarrel.com, $2600 is only the beginning. InfoBarrel.com plans to collaborate further with The Huntington Society of Canada in an attempt to raise both money and awareness around Huntington’s disease.
