The third location of Chicago-based Powell’s Bookstores and Pita Belly, a contemporary Mediterranean restaurant, have opened in adjoining spaces at University Village Marketplace, a mix of dining, retail, and service offerings in the heart of Chicago's historic Maxwell Street.

The third location of Chicago-based Powell’s Bookstores (http://www.powellschicago.com), and Pita Belly (http://www.pitabelly.com/Default.aspx), a contemporary Mediterranean restaurant, have opened in adjoining spaces at University Village Marketplace (http://www.uvmarketplace.com), a mix of dining, retail, and service offerings in the heart of historic Maxwell Street.

Powell’s Bookstores, 1218 S. Halsted St., (312) 243-9070, is an independently owned retailer specializing in used, rare, and discounted academic and scholarly books. Founded in 1971, Powell’s also operates locations in Hyde Park and Lakeview, each with more than 250,000 books. In addition to its other offerings, the new location carries a section of architecture books – many focused on Chicago architecture -- plus cookbooks and children’s books. Powell’s also buys used books (contact the store for details). Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday

Pita Belly, 807 W. Roosevelt Rd., (312) 433-0123, serves an extensive array of Mediterranean appetizers, sandwiches and entrees, including falafel, kababs, shawarma, and biryani. Many vegetarian options are available. The restaurant has a capacity of 50, and additional seating is available at Powell’s Bookstores. Pita Belly accepts all major credit cards, offers catering, online ordering, take-out, and delivery. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
