Tri-County Technical College Selects Highly-Scalable OpenDNS Enterprise to Secure Mobile and Roaming Devices

Prior to deploying OpenDNS Enterprise, Tri-County Technical College was using a filtering solution from Lightspeed Systems. The server-based system was not capable of solving the critical security problem of protecting mobile and roaming devices, leaving the college vulnerable. It was also creating a network bottleneck and dragging down performance. Like most higher education organizations, the college had minimal filtering needs beyond their goal of prohibiting access to sites known to transmit malware and other Internet threats. To support 6,000 users across four campuses, the team was searching for a highly scalable, cloud-based Web filtering solution that would instantly respond to growing bandwidth needs without affecting network performance.

The Tri-County Technical College IT Team selected OpenDNS Enterprise because unlike appliance or software-based solutions, cloud-based OpenDNS Enterprise scales on-demand to meet the needs of growing organizations. OpenDNS Enterprise is also the only service capable of not only preventing access to known malicious sites, but also eliminating communication between an infected device and its online host. This means that without downloading any software, all unmanaged devices on the Tri-County Technical College network, such as a student-owned iPads or faculty members’ personal laptops, would be prevented from downloading malware and transmitting malicious communications.
