Dr. Shana Garrett, LPC, NCC, Vice President of Online Academic Affairs for The College of Health Care Professions will be presenting her paper on “Facilitating Community in within the Virtual Learning Environment” and will be serving as Chair for the Assessment and Evaluation in Virtual Worlds panel discussion on March 13 -14

Dr. Shana Garrett, LPC, NCC, Vice President of Online Academic Affairs for The College of Health Care Professions will be presenting her paper on “Facilitating Community in within the Virtual Learning Environment” and will be serving as Chair for the Assessment and Evaluation in Virtual Worlds panel discussion on March 13 -14. The event is organized by Inter-Disciplinary.Net.

The Conference explores a number of core themes to examine formal and informal learning in virtual worlds, online communities, blended learning approaches, organizational issues and strategies in virtual education.

“By utilizing this informal community of practice, the instructor’s facilitation style lends itself to not only reinforcing the positive learning experience, but is also utilizing the team community approach to reinforce and support the individual community members in participating in class,” Dr. Garret said.

Dr. Garrett has over fifteen years of experience in the education industry in both the online and ground platforms. Her administrator experience is supported by several years of faculty experience in both post-secondary education institutions as well as serving as faculty at the North Texas Council of Government-Regional Police Academy.

She has presented nationally and internationally on topics ranging from academic success, student advocacy, and coaching for success for the online student. Dr. Garrett holds the designation as a National Certified Counselor. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Saybrook University, her Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, and her Bachelor of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas.
