Vulnerable communities in Papua New Guinea can look forward to quality healthcare thanks to the generosity and committed resources of strong corporate partners such as Maersk Line.

As part of a strong corporate citizenship program, Maersk Line, the world’s largest ocean carrier, has committed to transporting nine MediSend Containers of Hope to hospitals and clinics in Papua New Guinea. Each of the forty-foot ocean containers will be filled with medical supplies and biomedical equipment.
Most of Papua New Guinea's people live in extreme poverty. While the country is endeavoring to improve healthcare conditions, according to the World Health Organization, infant mortality rates are still high compared with other countries in the Asia Pacific region. Malaria, tuberculosis, diarrheal diseases and acute respiratory disease continue to be leading causes of illness and death. HIV/AIDS is increasing to the point that there is fear of a situation similar to that in Sub-Saharan Africa.
“Deeply held values influence everything we do at Maersk Line. Recognizing that logistics and transportation are crucial components, we are proud to offer our support for MediSend’s healthcare program in Papua New Guinea,” says Nicolaj Noes, Managing Director of A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S for Australia and Papua New Guinea.
The distribution of medical supplies and biomedical equipment is part of a larger MediSend healthcare initiative to strengthen healthcare in Papua New Guinea. The initiative also includes the training, certification and equipping of biomedical repair technicians.
“Maersk Line ships will transport these life-saving medical supplies and biomedical equipment to people living in some of the world’s poorest conditions,” says Nick Hallack, President and CEO of MediSend International, “Vulnerable communities in Papua New Guinea can look forward to quality healthcare thanks to the generosity and committed resources of strong corporate partners such as Maersk Line.”
