Biovo Technologies announced that it has received CE Mark approval for its Airway Medix Closed Suction System, a patented system designed to remove biofilm and secretion buildup from the inner lumen of the endotracheal tube. Bacterial buildup inside the endotracheal tube is considered one of the leading causes ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) in intensive care units (ICU).

VAP accounts for as much as 15% of all hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) and approximately 27% of all infections acquired in the intensive care unit ICU. The Airway Medix Closed Suction System is designed to remove secretions and minimize biofilm accumulation thus maintaining full patency of the endotracheal tube, supporting ventilation efficiency and minimizing the patient's work of breathing.
The Airway Medix Closed Suction System is the first in a line of Airway Medix innovative, cost effective, disposable medical devices developed by Biovo Technologies that address VAP pathogenesis.
