The EB selected Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as the sole nominee to host the 127th IOC Session, in 2015. The vote will take place at the next IOC Session, in London, this July.
(PRWEB) March 15, 2012
The IOC Executive Board (EB) wrapped up its first meeting of 2012, having received reports from the IOC commissions and administration, and updates on preparations for upcoming Olympic Games: London 2012, Sochi 2014, Rio 2016, and PyeongChang 2018.
The two-day meeting started with a moment of silence for IOC honorary member from Nigeria Henry Edmund Olufemi Adefope, who passed away on 11 March at the age of 84.
Nominees for IOC membership
The EB made a number of decisions, including the selection of Tsunekazu Takeda (Japan), Aisha Garad Ali (Djibouti), Pierre-Olivier Beckers (Belgium), Frank Fredericks (Namibia), and Lingwei Li (China) for the election of a maximum of five IOC members at the 124th IOC Session in London in July.
NOC of Panama
Following a discussion on the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Panama, the EB declared that the situation with the NOC had been fully normalised.
In both cases, the EB agreed to the request to reduce the three-year waiting period stipulated in the Olympic Charter (Rule 41), as the requirements for such a reduction or cancellation had been met, i.e. agreement had been given by the International Federation of the sport involved as well as by both National Olympic Committees concerned.
Mrs Aldama will change nationality from Sudan to Great Britain, while Mr Hindes will switch from Germany to Great Britain.
Venue for 127th IOC Session
Finally, the EB selected Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as the sole nominee to host the 127th IOC Session, in 2015. The vote will take place at the next IOC Session, in London, this July.
