Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) March 29, 2012
Burning Tree, a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility in Texas, announces the addition of its Clinical Director, Heidi Voet Smith, to the list of esteemed speakers at the upcoming Freedom & Recovery conference in San Diego. This integrated event for service members in the fields of mental health and addiction treatment will focus on the need for treatment among military personnel, law enforcement officers and first responders. The conference is hosted by Foundations Recovery Network, and Burning Tree is among the list of distinguished conference sponsors.
The four-day event at Hotel del Coronado will begin with a 12-Step meeting followed by a keynote address from General Barry R. McCaffrey. His presentation about the need for comprehensive substance abuse and mental health services for veterans is a topic personal to Burning Tree, which has provided a dual diagnosis and integrated treatment to veterans at its Texas facilities. Co-occurring dependence and mental health disorders will also be the focus of one of the nine, 90-minute workshops on the opening day.
Dallas native Heidi Voet Smith’s involvement at Freedom & Recovery is a highly personal one. As a young woman, she experienced the impact of addiction in her family, and she contended with a long-time eating disorder finally overcome through a devotion to a 12-Step program. As a licensed counselor, her ability to integrate clinical knowledge and skills in a 12-Step environment makes her a true asset among clients aiming to achieve a substance-free lifestyle while at Burning Tree. February marked her fifth anniversary at Burning Tree, and her achievements include co-creating the successful Family Program Workshop, designed to assist clients, family members, and significant others to develop a greater understanding of the impact of addiction on their relationships.
