Recruiters posted more than 19,000 online ads for technology jobs that require mobile development skills in February, growing 82% year-over-year and reaching a new all-time high, according to WANTED Analytics™.

During February, more than 19,000 job ads were placed online for mobile developers in the United States, according to WANTED Analytics™ (http://www.wantedanalytics.com), the leading source of real-time business intelligence for the talent marketplace. The mobile internet, now in its fourth generation, is being changed by LTE technology, which aims to better support the growing number of mobile users. Hiring demand for tech talent with mobile skill sets has grown drastically over the past years, seeing up 82% year-over-year growth from February 2011, 295% compared to 2010, and more than 400% from February 2009.

Mobile development requirements are included across all technology occupations, with Software Engineers, Web Developers, Java Developers, Project Managers, and Application Developers as the most common job titles to include these requirements in their ads.

The most demanded mobile development skills required by employers are:

1. Java
2. Android OS
3. JavaScript
4. Structured query language (SQL)
6. CSS
7. Linux
8. XML
9. Unix
10. AJAX

The most commonly advertised certifications for mobile developers include:

1. Project Management Professional (PMP)
2. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
3. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
4. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
5. Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

Mobile development skills are most frequently advertised for jobs located in the New York metropolitan area. During February, more than 1,800 job ads in New York included mobile skill requirements and grew more than average, up 87% over the past year. Other metro areas with high demand for cloud skills were Seattle, San Jose, San Francisco, and Washington (DC). While employers in New York placed the highest number of job ads for this talent pool, one of the highest year-over-year growth areas was Washington, DC where hiring demand increased 102%.

As hiring demand continues, the talent pool remains limited and companies sourcing for mobile development jobs are likely to find them difficult-to-fill. According to the Hiring Scale™, Recruiters in San Francisco are experiencing some of the most challenging conditions when recruiting candidates with these skills since hiring demand outpaces the local talent pool of qualified candidates. Employers here are likely to compete heavily to attract potential candidates and experience a longer time-to-fill than other areas across the United States. In fact, Recruiters in this area keep job ads online for an average of 7 weeks. In comparison, the Hiring Scale also shows that the best markets for recruiting these skills are Eugene (Oregon), Champaign (Illinois), and Wichita (Kansas). Lower hiring demand in these areas, coupled with larger talent supply, means that Recruiters are likely to fill job openings in as few as 4.5 weeks, more than 2 weeks faster than the national average.

The Hiring Scale measures conditions in local job markets by comparing hiring demand and labor supply. The Hiring Scale is part of the WANTED Analytics platform that offers business intelligence for the talent marketplace.
