Sierra Leone was granted full status as an Independent member country of the British Commonwealth on 26th of April 1961. Today, author Winston Forde takes the opportunity to encapsulate in a semi-fictional trilogy some random thoughts about the pre-Independent Sierra Leone in Reflections on Our Independence, made available through Xlibris.

Written to capture some of the Colonial culture of Sierra Leone, Reflections on Our Independence is composed of three stories. The first story, “Then came the Wind”, talks of Colonial days blowing across the British Empire. The second story, “A Hiding to Nothing”, is based on the experience of a typical couple who had emigrated overseas, at first ostensibly to undergo tertiary training at University, and then return home, who ultimately became part of the long term ‘brain drain’ generating a Diaspora of growing proportions. The final story “The Four Picaninnies” has no significance other the ‘good old days’ in the Colony area of Freetown. The quality of life was such that daily hardship, and toil did not dominate such experience, and people including the children could have a fun life.

This book will be featured at the 2011 London Book Fair in London, England, on April 11-13, 2011. Reflections on Our Independence is available in trade paperback, trade hardback, and eBook formats. For more information, interested parties may log on to http://www.XlibrisPublishing.co.uk.
