FEI Behavioral Health, a national crisis management and EAP company headquartered in Milwaukee, has developed an in-depth white paper about preventing and managing school violence.

Stories about violence in schools appear in today’s headlines with alarming frequency — from bullying to large-scale physical altercations. FEI helps schools and other organizations prepare for and manage a variety of disaster scenarios. The white paper is titled A Proactive Approach to Violence Prevention in Schools and focuses on:

  •     The proper assessment of risks
  •     Creating crisis checklists
  •     Establishing crisis policies and a response team
  •     The value of training and drills
  •     The role of communications
  •     The importance of psychological and emotional support after a crisis

“We want to build better awareness and understanding about the steps involved in a violence prevention plan, so that schools, universities and districts can maintain safe environments for their students and staff,” said Ted Uczen, president of FEI.

The paper has been distributed to departments of public instruction in multiple states and has been posted as a resource for school administrators. “We hope that education leaders find it useful as a reference for their planning sessions, and that they reach out for advice that will help them implement the most appropriate, complete crisis plan,” Uczen said.

FEI has also written articles about managing social media during an emerging crisis, countering bullies, and creating an effective crisis management plan.

For more than 30 years, FEI Behavioral Health has been a trusted partner in protecting and enhancing workforce effectiveness and organizational resiliency. FEI offers flexible solutions for the full spectrum of workforce resilience goals, from crisis preparedness and management to EAP and wellness services.
