Industry Pioneer Kerem Karatal Joins Colligo Networks as Chief Technology Officer

Colligo Networks, the leader in email and document management solutions for Microsoft SharePoint, today announced the appointment of Kerem Karatal to the newly created position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Kerem is a 20-year software industry veteran and entrepreneur who pioneered several innovative technologies, including ActiveX and the web content management module which became Microsoft SharePoint. Kerem will be responsible for directing Colligo’s technology strategy and engineering activities for its industry-leading SharePoint solutions for email and document management.

Kerem has been active as both a senior software executive and entrepreneur for the past 20 years, working with companies ranging from start-ups to large enterprises. He invented the concept behind Active X and was a co-founder of NCompass Labs, an early leader in the content management industry, growing the company to 150 employees and leading to the eventual acquisition by Microsoft in 2001. Following the acquisition, the NCompass technology became Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) and, subsequently the SharePoint Web Content Management module. Kerem held a number of senior positions at Microsoft, including the Lead Program Manager for Windows Explorer and Windows Property (metadata) system for Windows Desktop Search. Subsequent to Microsoft, he has developed a number of iOS apps, including a title which ranked as #2 children’s app in UK, #3 in France and top 100 in games category in the UK. Kerem obtained an M.S. in Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University, and was the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship. He is a named inventor on four issued and two pending software patents.
