Many are unsure of what exactly to expect from the incoming regulations, but there are a number of clues that can steer companies in the right direction and help them prepare today for FSMA requirements.

In the midst of a dramatically changing landscape in American food safety, Intelex today announced it will present a new webinar designed to help food and beverage companies better understand revolutionary new regulations. On Thursday, March 22, Intelex food and beverage specialist Chris Peart will host Food Safety Modernization Act: What You Need to Know. This informative 30-minute webinar will help viewers better understand how incoming regulations are going to take shape and what they can do today to prepare.

In early 2011, President Barack Obama signed the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) into law, signaling the biggest update to food safety legislation in nearly three quarters of a century. While some aspects of FSMA have already been implemented, a number of key regulations related to the act are expected later this year and in early 2013.

“This act represents a dramatic overhaul of American food safety rules, and not only will it affect U.S. businesses – it will impact suppliers, distributors and other food and beverage organizations across the global supply chain,” explains Peart. “While many businesses are unsure of what exactly to expect from the incoming regulations, there are a number of clues that can steer companies in the right direction and help them prepare today for what they will need to do tomorrow.”

A central theme throughout FSMA is a shift away from reactive food safety management, and towards proactive management. The implications of this are far-reaching and will include increased testing and inspections, improved hazard detection and analysis, and better supply chain traceability. It will also require food and beverage companies to take better control of their documentation, training and analysis capabilities in the name of providing the safest food for consumers. Intelex, a leader in environment, health, safety (EHS) and quality management software, helps organizations around the globe achieve compliance with the most rigorous food safety requirements.
