US Cargo Control Looks to Expand Product Offerings after Installing New High-Density Racking System

Iowa-based US Cargo Control, which specializes in moving supplies, ratchet straps, and other cargo control merchandise, has added a cart-on rail system by Ridg-U-Rak®, tripling the company’s warehouse space and enabling the growing business to keep more items in stock and add new product lines.

According to Tim Sanders, VP Warehouse Operations, the system creates a high volume of racking in a small amount of space, easing the rack shortage problem the company has experienced due to its explosive growth.

“We just built a new warehouse a year ago, but already we have so much demand for new products, and so many new products coming in, that we were running out of warehouse space,” said Sanders. “With the new racking, we can fit 240 pallets of merchandise in a space of about 36'x28'x24' high; something we just couldn't do with a straight rack.”

Sanders said the company is currently in the process of expanding its line of cargo straps and adding stainless steel cable railing to its wire rope product line. It also recently added to its selection of professional moving supplies, with heavy duty moving dollies, appliance trucks, and hand trucks.

Ridg-U-Rak’s Push-Bak™ pallet rack system utilizes 90% or more of rack space when applied correctly, whereas typical drive-in racks use only 60%. The dynamic cart-on-rail system automatically advances back pallet loads to the aisle area when the front pallet is removed. An additional benefit of the front loading system is that a typical forklift can be used to place and retrieve pallets, so a special long-reach forklift is not needed.

With the new racking now in place, Sanders has already seen a change in not only the warehouse workflow, but in purchasing and merchandising. “With this racking we can store so much more product, buy in bigger volume and keep costs down,” said Sanders. “It’s really an exciting time at US Cargo Control, knowing these increased efficiencies and expanded product lines are benefitting our customers, as well as growing the business.”
