Steven Hirsch & Associates has added three highly credentialed nursing executives to its team.

Steven Hirsch & Associates, one of the oldest and most respected health care consulting firms in the country, has added three highly credentialed nursing executives to its team. The consultants bring considerable depth in nurse management, quality improvement, licensure and regulatory compliance, infection prevention, and other critical issues facing health care organizations nationwide.

Linda Paternie, RN, BS, MHA, brings a solid background in clinical care, quality, risk and regulatory compliance. She comes most recently from Kindred Healthcare, where she held the position of Chief Clinical Officer. Organizations that have benefitted from Linda’s expertise include Children’s Hospital of San Diego, Children’s Hospital of Orange County, and Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Linda is a Past President of the Nurse Executive Council of Orange County and member of the Healthcare Association of Southern California, Association of California Nurse Leaders, and California Association for Healthcare Quality. Linda is also involved in the community as the Preceptor for graduate students from UCLA, and serves on the CSUF Advisory Council for the School of Nursing baccalaureate program, and on the Concorde College School of Nursing Advisory Board.

Betty Newsom, RN, BSN, MA, CNAA has rejoined Steven Hirsch & Associates afterhaving gained several years of additional experience as a Chief Nursing Officer in both for profit and not-for-profit healthcare organizations. Betty brings over 30 years in healthcare management and leadership experience and comes most recently from Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, where she held the position of Chief Nursing Officer. Betty has a strong clinical/nursing background and is well known for her leadership skills and knowledge of regulatory compliance. She has participated in professional associations addressing healthcare legislation, board redesign, programmatic changes and reimbursement. She has served as a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, Association of California Nurse Leaders, Hospital Council of Southern California representing the skilled nursing sector, California State University Northridge’s Advisory Board for Nursing, and a board member of the California Hospital Association of Continuum of Care. Betty recently led a team along the Magnet Journey which culminated in Magnet status designation in less than two years.

Shannon Oriola, RN, BSN, CIC, COHN will be leading Steven Hirsch & Associates’ Infection Prevention consulting services. She previously served in the capacity of Lead Infection Preventionist for San Diego’s Sharp Metropolitan Campus, which includes Sharp Memorial, Vista Pacifica (Psychiatric), Home Care, and Senior Services. Shannon has been in infection prevention and control since 2000. Shannon is involved in the legislative advocacy efforts of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), has served as an APIC liaison to the National Quality Forum, and on the APIC National Board. She has recently completed her second term as President of the California APIC Coordinating Council.
