School Specialty Launches New Grant Program to Support Response to Intervention (RTI) Initiatives in School Districts

Grant Provides Expert Analysis of Current and Proposed RTI Programs, Funding for New and Enhanced Efforts

Recognizing the power of RTI to ensure that all students are successful, EPS/School Specialty developed this new grant program to support districts in their efforts to implement intervention programs that will narrow the achievement gap.

EPS, School Specialty’s Literacy and Intervention division, today announced a new grant program designed to assist school districts in the development and improvement of Response to Intervention (RTI) programs. The RTI model for providing support, instruction and assessment for learners at all ability levels aligns with current federal legislation, such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act that urges schools to focus on ensuring all students are on the path to success by addressing difficulties early and individually.

“At the same time that more and more school districts are focused on implementing robust RTI initiatives, many are also looking for ways to fund their efforts in light of today’s shrinking school budgets,” said Steven Korte, President, Accelerated Learning Group of School Specialty. “Recognizing the power of RTI to ensure that all students are successful, EPS/School Specialty developed this new grant program to support districts in their efforts to implement intervention programs that will narrow the achievement gap.”

As part of the competitive process for The EPS RTI Grant Program, school districts are asked to submit a proposal that provides a detailed description of their planned or current RTI initiatives, a compelling statement of need for more RTI instructional resources, an implementation timeline and information about their plans for evaluating their initiatives. The district can specify in its grant application whether its needs are in reading and/or math intervention.

Selected applicants will receive a face-to-face review and discussion of their intervention strategies with an RTI expert, and an in-depth analysis of their approach with recommendations for improvement. Successful proposals will receive support of up to 35 percent of the program cost to support the purchase of EPS RTI solutions. Recipients will also receive access to an array of proven intervention programs and products, as well as professional development services, ongoing coaching, and support for district administrators and teachers.
