Haute Living is pleased to announce the first annual Restaurant Madness, to commence Mar. 22—appropriately coinciding with NCAA March Madness.
“It’s March Madness, so we thought now is the time to introduce our idea; we built a proprietary software program comparable to that of NCAA March Madness’ and it will allow our readers to determine not just ‘the best’ restaurant but their favorite restaurant using the most accurate of technologies,” said Haute Living publisher Kamal Hotchandani.
“Every year our country goes into a frenzy surrounding March Madness. As a huge college basketball fan, I am right there in the front rows and participating in tournaments. Since Haute Living is built around being cutting edge and on-trend, why not capture this contagious spirit and translate it to the restaurant sphere,” said Haute Living publisher Seth Semilof.
The five-week tournament will begin Mar. 22 with a list of the 32 best restaurants in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas—chosen initially by the Haute Living curators. The restaurants will then compete against one another--with two restaurants going head to head each week for readers to vote for their preference within each faceoff. The restaurant with the most votes will advance to the next round.
Ultimately, after the five-week period, voters comprised of Haute Living’s readers and restaurant patrons who want to support their favorite posts, will determine who will be named the champion of Haute Living Restaurant Madness by way of a traditional tournament bracket. The winner of the entire tournament will get a two-page editorial spread in the following issue of the magazine.
Unique to this tournament is that is about finding voters’ genuinely favorite restaurant. All submissions will be considered without restraints in regards to number of stars, existing reviews or type of cuisine. In Restaurant Madness, Miami restaurants from steakhouse STK might go up against Chinese outpost Mr. Chow, which could face off with Japanese locale Bond St, or Italian eatery Il Mulino or American restaurant Michael’s Genuine. There are no limits in this tournament; it is all about declaring the reader’s choice for favorite—from initial entries down until the single winner is crowned.
