American Board live information session in Salt Lake City, Utah

We are searching for people who have real-life experience in a subject area and are looking for a career change into education

The American Board will host live information sessions through March and April in Florida, Missouri, South Carolina and Idaho on how local residents can earn a teaching certification without class time or coursework. Admission is free and no tickets are required for entry.

“Anyone with a bachelor’s degree can become a full-time teacher within a year as long as they plan the right path. A poor plan could mean years of unnecessary coursework and spending thousands of extra dollars,” said Aaron Helmbrecht, spokesman for the American Board. “We are searching for people who have real-life experience in a subject area and are looking for a career change into education.”

At the event, attendees will learn what to expect in a career as a teacher, receive special enrollment discounts and advisement on a personalized path to certification.

The American Board
The American Board is a state approved alternative teacher certification non profit that certifies career changers, substitute teachers, paraprofessionals and out-of-field teachers. Founded in 2001 via a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the American Board's focus is building rural communities through education and employment. The American Board’s program allows highly-knowledgeable individuals from within their community to earn certification without additional class time, student teaching or state exams. Through improving the accessibility and affordability of certification, schools now have the opportunity to hire highly-qualified teachers from within their community instead of importing teachers form out of state or overseas.
