The Federal Deposits Insurance Corp. (FDIC) is granting banks an additional month to comment on a proposal that would require 23 large financial institutions to conduct annual stress tests, The Wall Street Journal reported. Those banks with more than $10 billion in assets would need to perform annual stress tests to make sure they have enough capital to weather a deep depression. Whether stress tests will be required for large financial institutions is unknown; however, a yearly assessment of overall functionality and health might be a good idea for other types of businesses. In the recent blog post “Stress Test: Examining the Health of Your Business,” The Business Finance Store offers five things to consider when examining the health of a business.
Administering a stress test is a way of assessing the health of each of the big banks, and small business owners and entrepreneurs should take note of this idea. While a worst-case scenario may never come to pass, being prepared for such an event strengthens a company and can make the difference between a business surviving or going under when times are tough.
