We're offering a chance for people to work directly with financial experts, and learn how to reach financial goals.

The Seattle-King County Asset-Building Collabortive, in conjunction with numerous community businesses and organizations, is proud to present the second annual Financial Fitness Day on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Rainier Community Center. The public is encouraged to attend this one-of-a kind event that gives access to many financial resources in one location.

“Seattle should be proud of the way that these organizations have united in common cause to provide access to financial education and services”, said Mayor Mike McGinn. “As our city recovers from the Great Recession, it is critical that we do everything we can to help support those who traditionally do not have access to these basic and important financial empowerment resources.”

People who attend Financial Fitness Day will receive help filing their tax returns, printing free credit reports, opening bank accounts, creating household budgets, developing plans to get out of debt, understanding their options to foreclosure, applying for public benefits (food, utilities, child care, health insurance), and shredding confidential documents. All of these services will be completely free.

“The success of last year’s Financial Fitness Day demonstrated that there is a continuing need for access to financial services and workshops designed to assist and empower everyone. Once again there will be an amazing opportunity for our community members to access a tremendous array of free services designed to help people understand, manage, and improve their financial situations,”said Diana Stone, Director of the Seattle King-County Asset Building Coalition. “We’re offering people an opportunity to meet with financial experts who are there to help others save money and make plans to reach realistic financial goals. We have over 40 participating organizations helping people access free financial advice, all in one convenient location.”

In addition financial services and resources, translation services will be available in Spanish, Chinese, Somali, and Vietnamese at no cost. There will also be translation available in American Sign Language for the hearing impaired. Childcare for attendees with small children will also be provided.

Financial Fitness Day will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Rainier Community Center located at 4600 38th Avenue S. Seattle.
