Activu® Corporation, a leading provider of IP-based visualization and collaboration solutions for mission-critical command and control center environments, is pleased to announce that its solution has been selected, as part of Florida Department of Transportation’s Intelligent Transportation Systems initiative, for deployment at the Southwest Florida Interagency Facility for Transportation (SWIFT) SunGuide Center and the Sarasota/Manatee County Satellite Transportation Management Center (STMC) in District One.

The SWIFT SunGuide Center is responsible for roads and highways in District One which includes twelve counties spread over 12,000 square miles. The Center also hosts the Freeway Management System (FMS) to oversee traffic on the I-75 freeway stretch that runs through District One.

District One’s roads and freeways have an underlying network of interconnected closed-circuit television cameras, vehicle sensors and roadway weather information systems that continuously transmit images and data to the video wall and desktop screens of operators at the Center. All of this information is intelligently controlled by the SunGuide computer system and, through Activu, will be displayed on various devices to develop situational awareness and enable interaction between decision-makers and responders. SunGuide and Activu, in tandem, will empower the Center to also use this intelligence to communicate with roadways’ drivers in real-time using dynamic message signs with heads-up information on travel conditions and developing situations such as fogs, fires, accidents or lane closures. This information sharing, within the Swift and STMC Centers, across agencies, decision-makers, responders and drivers, will reduce commute times and congestion, expedite routine and emergency response, and enhance overall roadway safety.

Activu was selected for this deployment because of its deep expertise with state-of-the-art traffic management systems, because its network centric solution is fully compatible with FDOT’s SunGuide Intelligent Transportation Systems and because Activu can seamlessly integrate remote desktops and smartphones into the decision-making matrix. With Activu, stakeholders and responders at geographically diverse locations can view, on their desktops and smartphones, everything that is displayed on video walls at the Center, dynamically send in images, text and data from the field and fully engage in brainstorming and decision-making through easy to use, software based collaboration tools.

“This selection validates our earlier initiative to independently develop software drivers that integrated Activu with FDOT’s SunGuide ITS software. It also underscores Activu’s growing role as the preferred visualization and collaboration solution in situations that demand advanced capabilities within the TMC, improved inter-agency communications and the inclusion of remote stakeholders and mobile responders fully into the information sharing and decision-making process. We are honored to play an increasingly vital role in Florida’s highly sophisticated ITS initiatives,” said Paul Noble, Activu CEO.
