Olshan Grundman Frome Rosenzweig & Wolosky LLP today announced that it will host a free CLE webinar entitled “Classifying Workers—Who is an Employee and Who is an Independent Contractor? ” on April 4, 2012, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. EDT.

Issues related to worker misclassification continue to grow, and they can have a major impact. There are tax and employment law implications. Increased enforcement by state and federal agencies has raised concerns. Companies must fully understand the issues to make informed decisions.

In this one-hour session, Olshan’s Tax, Benefits and Employment specialists will discuss the potential pitfalls of worker misclassification, and how to protect a business:

  • How does one determine whether a new worker is truly an independent contractor?
  • What laws must one consider?
  • What to do if workers have been misclassified.
  • Proactive measures to prevent problems BEFORE an audit or a lawsuit.

Olshan speakers will be Aliza F. Herzberg, lead partner of Olshan’s Employment Practices Group, who helps employers manage all aspects of their relationships with employees; Nina Krauthamer, co-lead partner of Olshan’s Tax & Personal Planning Group, who concentrates on federal, state and international tax matters for public, private and not-for-profit companies; and Barry L. Salkin, counsel in Olshan’s Employee Benefits group, who has extensive experience with employee benefits and compensation.
