Savtira Corporation, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Cloud Commerce solutions company dedicated to converging all commerce platforms and supporting them on all devices, today announced Internet pioneer Doug Humphrey, perhaps best known for co-founding Digex, has joined the Savtira advisory board.
Humphrey has started multiple companies, helped launch MTV.com and many other commercial applications on the Web and has sat on 20 boards. For the past 8 years, Mr. Humphrey has directed Joss Research Institute, a 501(C)3 non-profit doing scientific research in a wide array of subject areas. He also mentors startup companies at the University of Maryland’s Dingman Center for Entrepreneurs.
“Doug has expertise in so many areas that mirror the Savtira vision and we are eager to exploit some of his knowledge,” said Timothy M. Roberts, President and CEO of Savtira. “Doug has started multiple successful companies that were considered visionary and went on to make global impacts.”
Humphrey, who is credited as being “The Father of Managed Hosting,” and business partner Mike Doughney started Digex in 1992 as one of the world’s first Internet service providers, first managed hosting businesses and a leader in video streaming. Digex stood up multiple data centers in strategic geographic locations and attracted the likes of Martha Stewart Living, J. Crew, Kraft, Mercedes-Benz, and Nike as customers and streamed some of the popular Bud Bowls of the mid 1990s.
Savtira recently announced it has stood up four of its planned 11 Enterprise Cloud Commerce and EDN Application Streaming Data Centers as part of its business plan to help globally organize information that is easily accessible and categorized from the cloud. Humphrey’s experience in converting pioneering visions to real life success stories could prove invaluable to Savtira as it continues its rapid growth.
“With each startup effort I underwent, I always tried to focus on bringing value and being creative in a new space,” said Humphrey, a self-proclaimed serial entrepreneur . “At Savtira, I see a lot of creative thinking and a lot of value that customers might not even realize yet and I am happy to help bring attention to its mission.”
