Bel Marra Health comments on recent study that says tobacco related deaths have tripled in a decade

The numbers are bleak and they will only continue to get worse at this rate. Tobacco has killed 50 million people in the last 10 years, you can’t argue with the math. Something needs to be done immediately.

Bel Marra Health, well known for offering high-quality, specially formulated vitamins and nutritional supplements, has commented on a recent study that reports that tobacco related deaths have tripled in the past decade.

The study released and commented on by the American Cancer Society has projected that a billion people will die from tobacco use and exposure this century, a staggering one person every six seconds.

Not only this, but the report shows that since the 1st Tobacco Atlas Report in 2002, almost 43 trillion cigarettes have been smoked in the last decade.

Michael Eriksen, author of the report, and Spokesperson for the Institute of Public Health at Georgia State University says, "If we don't act, the projections for the future are even more morbid. And the burden of death caused by tobacco is increasingly one of the developing world, particularly Asia, the Middle East and Africa."

This news comes as no surprise to Dr. Victor Marchione, spokesperson for Bel Marra Health and expert in Pulmonary Medicine. In an interview, Marchione says, “the numbers are bleak and they will only continue to get worse at this rate. Tobacco has killed 50 million people in the last 10 years, you can’t argue with the math. Something needs to be done immediately.”

To date, Tobacco Atlas Report is saying that smoking is responsible for more than 15 percent of all male deaths and 7 percent of female deaths.
