this year there are far more festivals to choose from, as people are looking for smaller, independent events as well as the big established ones
Bristol, UK (PRWEB UK) 27 March 2012
Duport Associates Ltd have announced new statistics that show that February 2012 holds the record for the highest number of company formations for festivals.
Using the official Company Register, formations agents Duport Associates have found that in February 2012, 30 companies were formed with the term ‘festival’ included in their company name. This is by far the highest number on record, with the previous high of 21 formed in February 2007.
“February seems to be the month to start preparing for the summer festival season,” stated Duport Associates’ Managing Director, Peter Valaitis, “But this year there are far more festivals to choose from, as people are looking for smaller, independent events as well as the big established ones.”
With so many people across the country trying to cut down on their spending, it’s likely that people are opting to use festivals as an alternative to taking a holiday abroad.
Interest in established festivals such as Reading and Leeds and the Edinburgh Fringe have seen a huge increase over the past few years, and with Glastonbury, the biggest festival in the UK not on in 2012 to allow the site to recover, it seems likely that smaller festivals will benefit.
“It’s important to remember that festivals aren’t all about music. We’re seeing a big rise in independent festivals for all sorts of things including literature, comedy, film and culture, as well as to raise awareness of issues – such as gay rights or racism,” added Peter Valaitis.
The rise in new festivals registered at Companies House shows that the UK’s entertainment and tourism industries are preparing for a big summer of events, taking advantage of the increase in tourism expected from the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics.
