Prescott Valley, AZ (PRWEB) March 26, 2012
As Northcentral University moves into the future and continues to enhance academic quality and services provided to its students, the Graduate School will begin to implement a new model for its doctoral committee structure. The Graduate School was officially launched on October 1, 2011, in order to facilitate the dissertation research process for all doctoral students.
This new model includes providing a full-time faculty chair, with proven expertise in research methods knowledge transference and dissertation management. The model is founded on principles of individualized, mentored apprenticeship, in which doctoral students thrive. At least one content expert will round out the student’s dissertation committee. This committee structure will provide stability and continuity to promote strong student success.
“Directly following feedback from our students, this change to a full-time chair model provides students with exceptional doctoral training at the dissertation stage, offers a strong foundation for successful completion of dissertation work within the prescribed time frames, and ensures the quality of our academic programming,” stated Graduate School Dean, Dr. Gregory Bradley.
Dr. Bradley continued, “This exciting new strategy began March 2012. In general, as students new to the dissertation process arrive at the comprehensive examination phase of their program, they will receive advance notice of their chair assignment. Students currently in the DIS sequence, except those nearing completion, will migrate to the new model over the next year, and will also receive advance notice of any potential migration.”
Northcentral University is committed to enhancing academic quality, and providing student support with full-time committee chairs is a primary component of improvement strategies being implemented to that end.
“This model is designed to best support students through the dissertation process by providing expert research methodologists trained in supporting applied research and dissertation management,” related Dr. Scott Burrus, Vice Provost. “This strategy is designed to address academic quality and in particular support successful completion and increase overall student satisfaction at this crucial stage of their program.”
