It's important for employers to encourage this. It reduces employee sick days and helps productivity.

TrekDesk Treadmill Desks were featured today in an article from the Daytona Beach News Journal focused on the ill effects of sedentary office environments.

The article focused on a Port Orange, Florida woman, Pam Masters, who had changed from a physically active occupation to a sedentary position and was feeling the ill effects. "All I did was read legal briefs all day," said Masters who is now Clerk of the Court for the Fifth District. "It was the most quiet, sedentary job and I was miserable,” she stated in a Journal interview.

It didn’t take long for Masters to adjust to the new working style and now she is a convert with words of advice to all employers. "It's important for employers to encourage this," Masters said in her interview. "It reduces employee sick days and helps productivity."

The article also featured an interview with one of the nation’s pre-eminent authorities on workplace wellness, Dr. Steven Blair of the University of South Carolina (who also has a TrekDesk Treadmill Desk). Blair told the Journal the best way to combat the ill effects of a sedentary job is to move throughout the day as much as possible. The article also brought attention to Dr. Blair’s studies that show that even hitting the gym for an hour every day is not enough to counteract the ill effects of sitting.

“The Movement Revolution is an integral part of defeating the nation’s current health and obesity crisis,” stated TrekDesk CEO Steve Bordley. “We are grateful to the DBNJ’s article and their contribution to spreading the message to their readers.”
