The new recipes come as the family growers responsible for Natural Delights Medjool dates and date rolls gear up for one of the biggest Medjool date consumption times of the year.

“While Medjool dates are still new to many Americans, awareness and usage of this fabled fruit increases dramatically during Easter and Passover,” said Ed O’Malley, president of Datepac, the largest packer and shipper of Natural Delights Medjool Dates in the United States. “Thanks to a large 2012 crop and some terrific retailer promotions, we expect spring 2012 to be a banner season as more health-minded consumers add Medjools to their holiday plans. These five Natural Delights recipes represent just the tip of the iceberg of what’s possible with Medjools.”

According to O’Malley, as much as a third of all Medjools and other dates consumed in the United States are eaten during Easter and Passover. Other prime Medjool date-consumption holidays are Ramadan, Christmas and Hanukkah.

Known as the “Fruit of the Kings,” caramel-like Medjool dates are naturally sweet, contain no added sugar, and are loaded with important vitamins and minerals including potassium, copper, magnesium, vitamin B6, niacin, calcium, iron and vitamin K, making them a perfect recipe addition to boost nutrition.
